Darwin
So I get a phone call from Sako this morning. She is bitter about the stupidity of people. I deal with stupid people. I deal with stupid people all the time, outside my apartment, in the grocery store, in the--
Her type of stupid is a whole different level.
Be warned. We are insensitive people.
"So last week," she says, "some Indian guy fell over a waterfall."
"Is that bad?"
"Well, they couldn't find the body, but they had to look for it. They gave up."
"Man. How'd he fall over the waterfall?"
"He was trying to take a picture. He was walking over some rocks, leaned over, and splut."
"Oops."
"And then a couple of days later, this girl was swimming in one of the pools over another waterfall, and she got stuck in a strainer or something -- anyway, she went over."
"Oy."
"And they got her at the bottom, by one arm, and they were trying to pull her out, and in front of her family and everything, they ripped her arm off."
"...what?"
"It comes right off. She was already dead, okay."
"I should not be laughing."
"So the next day they try again, and they get her by the other arm..."
"...I really shouldn't be laughing."
"...and they rip that one off, too. In front of everybody. Comes right off."
"I am a bad person. With the laughing."
"So she has to be impaled down there or something, but the water's running so high so we can't get her, right? Not until the water goes down later in the season. And now I'm off work and I'm thinking yay, weekend, and last night this woman comes screaming down the trail about someone else who's fallen over a waterfall -- and this one's the biggest one, fifteen-hundred feet, and..."
"Oh my God."
"It's like they're throwing themselves off the waterfalls. THROWING THEMSELVES, LIKE LEMMINGS. It's survival of the fittest, and these people are not the fittest. I think they're importing stupid people into the Park."
"You going?"
"Shit, no. It's my weekend. Stupid people are pissing me off."
